Buying an Office Chair Online in Bangladesh: A Checklist Before You Order

A buyer’s checklist for delivery, warranty, returns and assembly.

An office chair is one of the few things you buy online that your body has to negotiate with for eight hours a day. And it is one of the hardest things to judge from a listing, because almost every chair photographed in a bright empty room looks supportive.

The gap between a good online chair purchase and a bad one is rarely the chair itself. It is what the seller does not publish: real seat dimensions, what the warranty actually replaces, who pays freight when you send it back, and whether anyone is going to assemble it. Below is what to verify before you pay, and the answers you should expect from a seller worth ordering from.

1Why chair photos mislead — what to check instead

Product photography is built to flatter. Wide-angle lenses stretch backrests and make seats look deeper. Studio lighting hides thin foam and loose mesh. And a chair shot alone against white has no scale reference, so a compact task chair and a full executive chair can occupy the same frame identically.

The details that decide whether you like a chair after a month are almost never visible in the hero image: foam density, mesh tension, how far the recline goes before it stops, whether the armrests actually slide under your desk. So stop reading photos as evidence and start reading them for specific mechanical clues.

Look for these in the images

• A side profile with the chair at its lowest and highest setting, not just one angle.
• A close shot of the lift lever and tilt knob, so you can count the actual adjustments.
• The base: five castors, and whether it is nylon or metal.
• Stitching and seam lines on the seat edge, where cheap upholstery fails first.
• At least one photo of the chair with a person sitting in it, for scale.

If a listing shows only renders, ask for a real photo of the unit in stock. A seller holding actual inventory can send one within the hour. 2Published dimensions: the question most sellers dodge

Ask three online furniture sellers in Bangladesh for a chair’s seat height range and see how many answer with numbers. This is the single most useful filter you have, because dimensions are the one thing that cannot be exaggerated without being caught.

Most desks sold here sit at roughly 75 cm high. For your forearms to rest level on that desk, you generally need a seat height that adjusts somewhere between 45 cm and 52 cm. A chair with a 50–60 cm range is built for a taller frame and will leave many people perched with their feet dangling — a problem no cushion fixes.

The five numbers to request

1. Seat height range, floor to top of seat, at lowest and highest.
2. Seat width and depth. Depth matters more: too deep and the front edge presses behind your knees.
3. Backrest height, and whether lumbar support is fixed or adjustable.
4. Armrest height from the floor, to confirm the chair slides under your desk.
5. Base diameter and weight capacity, especially for small rooms and heavier users.

Measure your desk before you shop, not after the box arrives. 3Warranty terms and what “1 year” actually covers

“1 year warranty” is printed on nearly every chair listing in the country, and it means almost nothing on its own. A warranty is defined by three things: which parts it covers, how a claim is serviced, and how long spare parts stay available. Ask about all three before the number matters.

Office chairs fail in predictable places. The gas lift cylinder loses pressure and the seat sinks slowly while you work. The tilt mechanism develops play or a click. Castors crack. Foam compresses. Armrest plastics snap at the joint. A meaningful warranty names those parts.

What is usually covered

• Gas lift cylinder failure and seat sinking
• Tilt mechanism and lever faults
• Base or frame cracking under normal use
• Manufacturing defects in welds and fittings

What is usually excluded

• Fabric and mesh wear, tears, stains and fading
• Foam compression from daily use
• Castor wear, especially on rough or unfinished floors
• Damage from exceeding the weight rating or using the chair as a step

Also ask whether the warranty is serviced at your location or requires you to ship the chair back, and whether replacement parts are stocked locally. 4Return windows and who pays return shipping

A return policy is where online furniture sellers quietly separate themselves. Everyone advertises returns. Far fewer explain the conditions, and the conditions are the policy.

Seven days is a fair window for a chair. It is enough time to sit in it through several working days and notice the things a showroom visit never reveals: whether the lumbar curve lands in the right place, whether the armrests interfere with your desk, whether the recline holds where you set it.

Four conditions to confirm in writing

1. Condition required. Unused only, or is normal trial use accepted? A chair you were never allowed to sit in cannot be evaluated.
2. Original packaging. If the box is mandatory, do not discard it for a week. Many returns are refused on this alone.
3. Return freight. Who pays to bring a bulky chair back from Sylhet or Rajshahi? This can quietly cost more than the discount that convinced you to buy.
4. Refund timing and method. Cash, bKash transfer, or store credit, and how many days after the chair is received.

5Assembly: included, extra, or your problem

Almost every office chair in Bangladesh ships flat-packed, in one or two boxes, as five or six components: base, castors, gas cylinder, seat, backrest, and a bag of bolts with an Allen key. Someone has to put it together. The listing rarely says who.

There are three models in the market, and they are not equally priced even when the chair price is identical. Assembly may be included with delivery, offered as a paid add-on for a few hundred taka, or left entirely to you.

Self-assembly is manageable if you are careful, but the failure modes are real. Over-tightening strips the threads in soft-metal fittings. An incorrectly seated gas cylinder works loose and wobbles. Castors that are not pressed fully into the base pop out under load. Each of these turns into a warranty conversation where the seller can reasonably point at the installation.

If you are ordering more than a handful of chairs, ask specifically about bulk assembly on site and how long the team needs. Twenty chairs assembled by your own staff is close to a full working day of somebody’s time, which belongs in your cost comparison alongside the unit price.

6Delivery timelines inside and outside Dhaka

Furniture delivery in Bangladesh runs on two completely different systems, and a single advertised timeline usually hides that. Inside Dhaka, delivery is typically handled by the seller’s own vehicle and team, which is why assembly can be bundled with it. Outside Dhaka, the chair moves through a third-party courier, boxed, with no one to set it up at the other end.

Realistic timelines look like this: 2–3 days for Dhaka including assembly, and 5–7 days nationwide for courier delivery. Anything promising same-day furniture delivery across the country is describing an ambition, not a schedule.

Questions that prevent delivery-day problems

• Is there a lift, and if not, which floor is the delivery to? Some teams charge above the third floor.
• Can you inspect the chair before signing and before paying?
• What happens if the box arrives dented or the frame is scratched?
• Will you get a call before arrival, and can you choose a delivery window?
• For courier delivery, is transit damage the seller’s responsibility or the courier’s?

7Payment options and buyer protection

How you pay changes how much leverage you have if something goes wrong. For a purchase in this price range, that leverage is worth more than a small discount for paying in advance.

Cash on delivery gives you the strongest position: you see the chair, you check it, and you hand over money only if it matches what was described. bKash and card payments are convenient and faster to process, and card payments add a formal dispute route through your bank. Each has a place, but they are not interchangeable.

What to keep after you pay

1. An invoice with the business name, chair model, price and warranty period on it.
2. The bKash transaction ID or card receipt.
3. The written reply confirming the return window and who pays return freight.
4. Photos of the chair on delivery day, before assembly.
